What is Counselling?

Counselling basically means  ‘helping people to help themselves’.  Generally it involves focussing on a specific problem or problems. Being listened to, and hearing themselves talk about their problem, can sometimes be sufficient to help clients develop a different perspective and thus a solution to their problems.

Counselling  offers a safe and confidential space to help you explore what is going on.  Your concerns will be taken seriously and you will be listened to with acceptance and respect.  You will not be judged, nor will you be given advice.

Counselling tends to be time limited, varying from, say, six sessions to six months.
Regular evaluations can be a useful part of counselling as it helps track the counselling process and its effectiveness.

The kind of things that people bring to counselling may include:

A relationship break up
A problem in work
Feeling stressed
Anxiety
Bereavement
An upsetting event
Inability to make a decision

Counselling involves once weekly 60 minute sessions for a limited period.
